A bird with a rich symbolic
history, the falcon makes a strong subject for sculpture. In the
times of the Pharaohs, falcons were a symbol of power and wealth,
and Allen has captured that power and richness in this sculpture. "I have chosen a
rock as a base instead of the usual wood," Allen explains, "because
it enhances the feeling of strength. The falcon seems to come
to life with a fierce expression and asymmetrical wing positions
ready to take flight." Many leaders in the Middle East
have been presented this falcon, including President Mubarak
of Egypt and Crown Prince Sheikh Saad of Kuwait.
