The snow goose, which migrates from the north of Russia to North America, was chosen as a subject by Allen because of its simplicity and elegance. President Reagan chose the Sitting Snow Goose as a gift for Mikhail Gorbachev on the occasion of their first meeting in Geneva in 1983.

However, Allen explains, "Just three days before the presentation, the State Department called to say they changed their minds. They decided on another gift: a silver tray. They returned the goose, and I returned the check. Little did I know then that seven years later I would be presenting another snow goose sculpture (Flying Snow Goose) to President Gorbachev as a gift from the Hoover Institution at Stanford."

Size: 11" long.
