George Shearing, the eminent blind jazz musician, was presented with this pelican on his 75th birthday. He ran his hands over the sculpture and said, "Now I see what a pelican looks like." "The pelican," Allen says, "is an unlikely melding of grace and clumsiness. I chose to have this one sitting alone because a base would have distracted from the weightiness and roundness of the piece. He is such a character that people comment when they see him in a room. Wherever he is placed becomes his domain."

Size: 16" long.
